Weber Barbecue Balls

These large clay spheres were made in the bottom half of a large black Weber barbecue which I used as a press mold. The left one is from rolled out slabs of clay while the right one is made from thrown pots, what I call 'plop pots' - small pots thrown off a mound of clay then tossed  into the barbecue.

I line the barbecue with plastic then clay is pressed in along the bottom and as far up the sides as it can go. After drying a bit, I pull up the plastic from one side until the clay is above the rim. I repeat this sequence until the sphere is complete. This one is too wet to remove yet.
